Old age can bring its own particular problems. The increase in the proportion of the elderly in the National Population has put local authority social services under considerable strain. The budgets and resources are being stretched and receivers of care services are being asked to contribute more towards the costs.
There are however certain basic steps that can be taken to prepare for the eventuality of being in need of such services. These include making a will, making a Lasting Power of Attorney, reviewing your assets to determine if excess wealth can be the subject of lifetime gifts to cut a tax liability or to preserve wealth for your family. Some people may also like to make a living will giving guidance to family and doctors concerning future care, should an individual be incapable of expressing his or her wishes at the time treatment becomes necessary.
We are members of Solicitors for the Elderly and are committed to serving the needs of elderly clients. We can assist with applications to The Court of Protection, including the appointment of Deputies and making Statutory Wills for persons who have lost capacity.
